NEW MUSIC + INTERDISCIPLINARY
David Fung has performed, premiered and commissioned new works by living composers, such as Samuel Carl Adams, Krists Auznieks, QiGang Chen, Louis Chiappetta, Tan Dun, Arvo Pärt, Michel Petrossian, Frederic Rzewski, Eric Tanguy, Christopher Theofanidis, and Carl Vine. In 2013, he co-commissioned works by Stephen Feigenbaum, William Gardiner, Balint Karosi, Paul Kerekes, Daniel Schlosberg, and Benjamin Wallace for Reflections on Bach, a project pairing original works by Bach with new works inspired by them. In 2018, Mr. Fung recorded Christopher Theofanidis' O Vis Aeternitatis with the Argus Quartet, Avner Dorman's Sonata No. 2 for Violin and Piano with SoJin Kim at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig for Genuin Classics, and Alfred Schnittke's Suite in the Old Style for Violin and Piano with Francisco Fullana for Orchid Records. Commissions for 2019 include a new work by Latvian composer, Krists Auznieks.
Mr. Fung's deep interest in the visual arts and literature has resulted in a number of interdisciplinary collaborations. In 2013, he performed in a multidisciplinary project, QU4RTETS, which combined art by Bruce Herman and Makoto Fujimura with T. S. Eliot's Four Quartets, and At the Still Point by Christopher Theofanidis. More recently, he toured major venues in China with piano works that were paired with projected art works and prose created by Elizabeth Schumann, and has also juxtaposed the late works of Morton Feldman with works by Mark Rothko.
